If Not for the Storm
A downloadable game
This game is still in playtest mode. More updates will be added as we go.
If Not for the Storm is a short-form Carved from Brindlewood TTRPG, about what happens when two people who don’t share a common language, and should be enemies, are forced to work together.
If Not for the Storm is about mistrust and the slow emergence of cooperation. One player portrays an American pilot, the other a Japanese naval officer, both marooned on a mysterious island after a violent storm interrupts a battle. The game unfolds over three chapters, each introducing new Questions, Landmarks, & Clues. Three to four sessions are to be expected.
For two players and one keeper. Inspired by Hell in the Pacific (1968), Enemy Mine (1985), & Dances with Wolves (1990).
Subject Matter: Wartime hostility and antagonism, mistrust of the other, the moral fog of war, collaboration between supposed enemies, and anti-war undertones. Lack of food, shelter, environmental struggles, and other basic needs. This game is designed for players who enjoy introspective, story-first roleplay, where silence, subtext, and gesture carry as much weight as spoken dialogue.
Safety Tools: Due to the cultural differences and global relations at the time this game is set, it is essential to discuss safety tools, Lines & Veils, and the X-card are recommended.
I'm putting this out as part of the More than a Mystery Game Jam.
